For the past few weeks it seems like I have been trying to figure out how moisture is getting into my 3rd brake light. I finally found out as you can see below - you can actually see moisture in the lamp in this picture.
So after discovering this fault, I was preparing to fix it when I broke the darn rear trim! It's a very delicate piece as I found out.
Got a new one but as I was installing I noticed two round rubber gaskets with a center hole sitting in the trunk. Can't find out where they go or if they even came out of the assembly - I think they did come out of the trim piece. It seems like they'll go over a screw but everything I have tried so far doesn't seem to make sense when assembled. And, of course, I forgot to take a pic of the subject gaskets. They're about 1/2 inch OD and less than 1/8 inch thick. Below are a few pics to help determine where they go. Thanks. Center Section (two screws here that mount to body, but the gaskets seem out of place)
This is the end of the trim. There's a screw (not shown)at the end that pops out towards you. The gaskets fit but seems out of place.
BTW, on an unrelated matter, the liftgate has a device that looks like a damper. What is it and what does it damp? It's that rectangular piece on the right of the opened trunk in the pic.
